Reflecting on a Year of Change and Growth
The year 2025 has come to a close, and it’s time for a heartfelt recap of both challenges and triumphs we experienced as a family. From adventures that took us across states and oceans to significant losses that shaped our emotional landscape, this past year has given us a deeper understanding of the beauty and fragility of life. The journey has been a testament to resilience and the importance of cherishing every moment with our loved ones.
Embracing Joy Amidst Heartache
As we look back, we honor the memory of two dear family members we lost this year—my dad and Mark's mother. Their departures marked a pivotal moment for our family, signaling the end of an era. The holidays felt different without their comforting presence, yet we pushed ourselves to celebrate their lives and the joy they brought us. The sorrow was palpable, but so was the gratitude that came from the love and memories we shared.
Traveling Through Beautiful Moments
This year also brought opportunities for new adventures. We kicked off 2025 on a Celebrity cruise with friends from church, soaking in the sunshine and warmth of the Caribbean. While illness struck Mark on the voyage, we still managed to enjoy the experience, which has motivated us to plan another cruise soon. Subsequent trips to Italy and LaGrange, GA, reminded us of the world’s beauty and the importance of exploring it together.
Creating a Home Rooted in Love
As much as we’ve traveled, home has been a sanctuary for us too. We’ve spent countless hours renovating our residence, striving to create a space that reflects our family's spirit. From an abundant garden overflowing with herbs and tomatoes to cozy corners filled with cherished memories, our home now feels complete. These improvements resonate with our family’s commitment to building a nurturing environment, further inspiring us to engage with our surroundings.
Health Challenges and Triumphs
This year also brought health hurdles I faced personally. Undergoing my first hip replacement surgery was daunting, but recovering quickly filled me with hope for the future. As I regained my mobility, I reflected on the way our experiences—both difficult and joyful—shape who we are as individuals and as a family. The support from loved ones during this time was invaluable and a reminder of the strength that community provides.
Embracing Multigenerational Family Traditions
This past year, we also leaned into making memories with family traditions through travel. According to current travel trends, multigenerational trips are gaining traction—34% of families are seeking vacations that allow them to spend quality time together, from beach resorts to international getaways. In September, we’re excited to embark on a group trip to England, Ireland, and Scotland, inviting family and friends to join us in creating lasting memories.
Anticipating What’s Next
As we look forward to 2026, we're excited about the adventures that lie ahead, with the goal to travel more and experience all that life offers. We are ready to visit new destinations, strengthen family ties, and, of course, start new projects at home. With plans to recreate our tomato garden and promote family gatherings, we are committed to making 2026 a year of growth, connection, and joy.
Actionable Insights for a Fulfilled Life
Reflecting on a year filled with both laughter and tears inspires contemplation on how to make the most out of every moment. Whether it’s self-care during health challenges, deepening family connections through travel traditions, or simply enjoying time spent gardening, let's nurture our lives with enriching experiences.
As we embrace the future, I encourage you to reflect on your 2025, identifying moments of joy and learning from challenges. What new traditions can you create with your family?
